Apps, Maps, & Data: Conservation design focuses on the creation of products and tools necessary for on-the-ground actions which sustain and enhance natural resources. The LP Portal is utilizing conservation design by combining geospatial data with biological information to develop maps and decision support tools that inform practitioners about the quality, quantity, and configuration of habitat needed to protect biological diversity and other valued resources. Find in this section of the Portal tools and thematic areas of focus that house maps, products, and other resources to help guide land managers with on-the-ground conservation action throughout the region.

Camp Wiahkowi Dam Removal: The Friends of the Winooski River completed the removal of Camp Wihakowi Dam (Vermont) in 2020.

SARP Aquatic Barrier Prioritization Tool: Recently improved inventories of aquatic barriers enable us to describe, understand, and prioritize them for removal, restoration, and mitigation. Through this tool and others, we empower you by providing information on documented barriers and standardized methods by which to prioritize barriers of interest for restoration efforts.

SE FireMap: Accurately tracking and understanding wildland fire patterns across the Southeastern U.S. is a critical need identified by a consortium of conservation partners. The SE FireMap is a new product developed in 2020-21 to meet these needs, and funded by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service's Working Lands for Wildlife program under an agreement with the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities.

The Literature Gateway Tool: This tool allows users to search for literature on bird species-vegetation relationships in eastern and boreal forests of North America.

USDA NRCS Working Lands for Wildlife: Through Working Lands for Wildlife (WLFW), USDA uses a win-win approach to systematically target conservation efforts to improve agricultural and forest productivity which enhance wildlife habitat on working landscapes. Target species are used as barometers for success because their habitat needs are representative of healthy, functioning ecosystems where conservation efforts benefit a much broader suite of species.
