NEAFWA Workshop: Applying Information and Tools from LCCs in the Northeast

On April 3, 2016, the Appalachian LCC and the North Atlantic LCC partnered to deliver a hands-on workshop for applying information and tools developed by LCCs in the northeast region.

The workshop was intended for biological and GIS staff from state fish and wildlife agencies and NGOs who are interested in using LCC information to guide conservation decisions within their agencies and organizations. It took place prior to the 2016 Northeast Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies annual conference in Annapolis, Maryland.

Jessica Rhodes of the Applachian LCC presented information regarding utilization of the Appalachian LCC portal as well as tools and products which were funded by the Appalachian LCC. These included the Riparian Prioritization for Climate Change Resilience tool, Assessing Future Energy Development Forecast Model, Ecosystem Benefits and Risks data, and a brief introduction to the LCC online learning platform.

Renee Farnsworth of the North Atlantic LCC provided an overview of products available on the North Atlantic LCC web portal and presented information for utilizing data within Data Basin for both LCCs. Several researchers were also on hand to describe their products as well as explain to participants how to access data within the LCC platform. These included Scott Jackson from UMASS Amherst discussing the North Atlantic Aquatic Connectivity Collaborative, Todd Petty of West Virginia State University discussing the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Brook Trout Decision Support Tool and Atlantic Coast Diadromous Tool, and Tracy Monegan Rice discussing the North Atlantic Beach Habitat Inventories before and after Hurricane Sandy.

Workshop participants were provided time during the presentations to learn and utilize the tools as well as to provide feedback.
