The recent and potential future threats to ecosystems are vital for prioritizing management activities in the Southeast. Jennifer Costanza (NC State University) will show how data and tools from LANDFIRE have been used in complementary efforts to assess threats and inform management across the region. First, she will show results of an analysis of vegetation modification across the Southeast Coastal Plain with LANDFIRE’s Biophysical Setting (BpS) and S-class data. That study identifies ecosystems that have been most altered, and thus suggests priority ecosystems for management. Then she will discuss simulation modeling in the longleaf pine ecosystem using modified LANDFIRE state-and-transition models under future scenarios of prescribed burning, urbanization, and climate change. Simulation results can be used to inform future conservation and management priorities in that important ecosystem. Following the webinar there will be time for Q & A.
