Landscape Partnership Newsletter-Announcing Bobscapes: A Mobile App To Track Northern Bobwhite On Our Landscapes

Working Lands for Wildlife is happy to announce the launch of Bobscapes, a Mobile App to track Northern Bobwhite. Bobscapes is the newest online tool to join the suite of decision-support tools hosted on the Landscape Partnership Portal.

What is Bobscapes?

"Bobscapes" Mobile App is a citizen science tool to help researchers better understand bobwhite population dynamics and help managers direct resources for habitat work to the areas where those investments will be most effective in recovering the species. We need everyone's help in collecting the data needed to better manage habitat for bobwhite and other grassland species in the central and eastern U.S.

Accessing Bobscapes

Please join us in this important conservation effort!
Visit the Bobscapes website to learn more about this national effort and for instructions on how to get the app.

What makes Bobscapes Unique?

Over 80% of the Bobwhite's habitat is owned by private landowners. We hope this app helps us work more collaboratively with landowners and the public. No personal information will be shared from the Bobwhite App without landowner permission--- landowners will be asked if they are interested in being contacted by a wildlife biologist to offer assistance. Bobwhite location data will be shared with experts tracking how bobwhite populations are doing, and the information will help us focus our habitat restoration efforts across the U.S.

Who might use Bobscapes

Below are examples of individuals who might benefit from using this new App!

Landowners and Bird Enthusiasts: The app will connect landowners and bird watchers to technical experts who can make habitat recommendations and share information on voluntary cost-share programs.

Wildlife Biologists: The data provided will assist wildlife biologists in creating a national habitat network of "Bobwhite landscapes" necessary to ensure this species and the larger wildlife communities persist for future generations.
Government Agency Staff and NGO Partners: "Bobscapes" Mobile App is a citizen science partnership to help researchers better understand bobwhite population dynamics and help managers direct resources for habitat work to the areas where those investments will be most effective in recovering the species.
