Announcing the January 2015 Decision Analysis for Climate Change Online Course (ALC 3196)

Have you always wanted to know how to address climate change related concerns and uncertainties using decision analysis? Do you have a small to moderate scale climate change problem you are working on and wondered if decision analysis can help you solve that problem? We have the class for you!

We are pleased to announce our 2015 Online “Decision Analysis for Climate Change” class that explores climate change in the context of decision analysis. This 10-week online course starts the week of January 15^th, 2015 and continues through March 17^th, 2015 and highlights principles from Informing Decisions in a Changing Climate (2009) National Research Council Report. During this time, you will work in a team on actual decision problems building expertise in decision analysis and climate change impacts. Participants will work in a Moodle platform for class, using different learning applications such as videos, practice exercises, discussion boards, and literature.

Class Days and Times: See Attached Agenda

This is what you need to know before you register for class.

1) Have a computer and phone. Log-in to the computer/conference line on time for class and team sessions.

2) Dedicate 10-weeks (~6-8 hours per week ) of time to be a part of a team working through a case study. Time includes team, class, and individual work consisting of reading, assignments, SDM Overview videos, presentation creation, etc.

3) Be able to participate fully in class and as a team. Online learning is different than learning in the classroom. We try to make the class as engaging to participants as possible, but we need your help! As a participant we want you to engage in interacting with our instructor cadre through voice, chat, and participation in surveys during class and team sessions. This will make training effective and beneficial to everyone in the class.

4) Be able to attend at least 5 out of the 6 class sessions (everyone is required to attend the first and last session of class) and 90% of the team sessions.

5) Complete online assignments in a timely matter so that they are pertinent to the module we are working on. Assignments will not be graded, however they are a requirement as a part of the class and you will receive feedback from the course leader and/or instructor cadre.

Registration is limited to 12 participants for this session. We have reduced the number of participants as compared to last year to improve the overall learning experience for participants. If you would like to take this course be sure to register soon as class will fill up quickly!
