As compared to wildfire, there are significantly fewer research studies that focus on prescribed burning. This gap in the research and the need to address it was highlighted by fire scientists from across the country in a recent Forum article in Fire Ecology and Southern Fire exchange webinar. While much more research on prescribed burning is needed, many studies are available on a variety of topics including fire ecology, fire behavior, air quality impacts of prescribed fire, and public perceptions of prescribed fire. The following journals will be helpful in finding specific research articles about both prescribed fire and wildfire.
Wildland fire is an interdisciplinary field, and research on wildfire and prescribed fire is often published in other journals. The following journals, while not specifically focused on wildland fire, often publish wildland fire research.
